Head Coach – Phil Wolf

Head Coach Phil Wolf enters his first season at the helm of the LA Legends.

In 2007, Wolf led Azusa Pacific Men’s Team to its first-ever National Championship. In his seven seasons as the APU Head Coach, he’s guided the team to 3 Golden State Athletic Conference championships and been twice-awarded the GSAC Coach of the Year (2001 & 2007). Wolf was also honored as the 2007 Brine-NAIA Men’s Soccer National Coach of the Year.

In 2004, Wolf coached the Cascade Surge of the PDL in Cascade, Oregon . He led the Surge to their best season in their 10-year existence. The Surge finished 11-4-1 and were champions of the Northwest Division.

Wolf played 5 seasons of professional soccer, 3 campaigns of indoor play with the Dayton Dynamo (NPSL) and then on the outdoor circuit with the Charlotte Eagles (USL), Rockford Raptors (USL) and the Chicago Stingers (USL).

Head Coach - Jason Surrell

W- League

Jason Surrell enters his first season as the Head Coach of the LA Legends W-League Team. For the past eight years, he has been the Head Coach for the Azusa Pacific women’s soccer program, leading the Cougars to 8 NAIA Tournaments, where they have made 6 quarterfinals appearance, 4 semifinals appearances and 3 national title game appearances.

Surrell has also been honored six times as the Golden State Athletic Coach of the Year. In 2006, in just the third game of his seventh season as a head coach, Surrell became the second-fastest coach in NAIA history to post 100 career wins. Prior to becoming the head coach, Surrell spent four years as the APU Assistant Coach.

Technical Advisor - Ralph Perez

 

The LA Storm welcomes Ralph Perez to the coaching staff.  Perez brings a wealth of soccer knowledge due to his more than 30 years of coaching experience.  He is currently the Head Mens Soccer Coach at nearbye University of Redlands.

From 2005-2006 he served as Men’s National Staff Coach for the West Region of the U.S. Soccer Federation since 2005.  Beginning in 1978, Perez worked as U.S. National Staff Coach, helping the U.S. Team qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 40 years in 1990.  He also led the 1989 World Cup under-20 team to a fourth-place finish, boasting the best results for that team in program history.  From 1996 through 2003, he worked as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Galaxy and New York-New Jersey Metrostars, prior to serving as the Director of Coaching and Youth Development from 2003-2005. 

On the collegiate side, Perez enjoyed head coaching stints at Division I Old Dominion University (VA), Santa Clara University and Cal State Fullerton, along with Division II Cal State San Bernardino (women’s) and Cal State Los Angeles.
